Summer is here and many of us don’t even want to think about cleaning or maintaining the house. Be it as it may, this is the right time of the year for some home improvements and check-ups. Delaying them would do you no good. Better do it now, than worry later.
With this said, here Perfect Tenancy Cleaning in Vauxhall offer a summer home maintenance to-do list. Take advantage of it now.
Outdoor Cleaning and Maintenance
Summer is a great season, one that many people look forward to, but it often means humidity, heat, storms and lots of air-conditioning, which later magically transforms your bills into much bigger bills. There are certain tasks that should be completed before the new season arrives to keep you systems running properly, prevent damage and protect your home.
Tasks to perform:
- Check drainage and gutters: during winter debris probably accumulated around your drainage and gutters and even blocked them. The first thing you need to do is remove any debris that may cause damage or bending. If the gutters are damaged you need to repair them or call a technician to get the job done.
- Air conditioning check-ups: while it was winter you had to keep your house warm, but now that it is summer, you need the air-conditioning system to be adjusted to a new cycle. And don’t forget to provide a seasonal check-up on your air-conditioner. These systems need regular maintenance. If you want them to work properly, that’s the right thing to do. Not to mention, repairing damages is quite costly, so spotting the problem on time will help you save money.
- Attic and roof: it is a good idea to check for leaks, mouldy or rotten joists and water stains while it’s raining. If you notice something is wrong with the attic or roof, you should call a handyman. Don’t leave the job for later or you may experience serious problems in the months to come.
Indoor Cleaning
Refrigerator
Basically, the parts that need cleaning are door gasket and condenser coils. If the coils become dirty, your fridge may stop working. It can cost you about $100 to deal with the problem. Before you clean this part of the machine, you have to unplug it. Now vacuum the coils to get out all dust and debris.
How to clean the gasket? First, be sure to check for tears or cracks. You can clean the surface with water and soap. Then put a piece of paper on the gasket and close the door of the fridge. Now try to pull out the paper. You should feel resistance. If it is too easy to pull out the piece of paper, it means the seal isn’t working properly and you need to do something about it.
Bathroom
Check the drains. Drains get clogged very easily, so you need to check them regularly. Put a stick in the pipe and pull any debris, dirt or hair that may be clogging the drain. Then pour a special solution into the drain such as bleach and let sit for several minutes (you can use a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar if you like the eco-friendly approach) . Then rinse well with water.
Bathroom vents are a trap for dirt too. To clean them, remove the cover and vacuum. It will remove any particles or debris.
Air-conditioner
It is a good idea to replace the air filter every three months so that your air-conditioner works efficiently. It will also keep the air fresh. The last thing you need is a bunch of bacteria and dust mites circulating in the air you breathe.
