Best Home Improvement Projects to do Before Fall
Written by SayHomeBuy Admin // 2016/08/01 // Improving the Home // No comments
The end of summer is rapidly approaching and now is the time to get out of the house and enjoy what is left of the sunshine. Now is also a great time to take advantage of the weather to get some important home improvements done. If you cannot fit them in soon, you may be forced into doing them out in the chilly fall air. Here are five projects you should finish before summer officially ends.
Clean the Gutters
Messing around on top of the roof should NOT be done in the winter months. Get up on the roof on a nice summer morning and clean out those gutters. You will be extra glad they are unobstructed when the ice and snow has somewhere to run off to instead of staying stuck on the house.
Take Care of the Windows
If you keep the windows open regularly, they are probably pretty dirty. The glass, however, is not the biggest concern! Check the seals and insulation on all of the windows. If there is dirt stuck in them, they may not be able to seal properly when you are trying to keep the heat in the house. Additionally, if the weather has done any stripping to the paint, now is the best time to repair it.
Clean the Deck
As you are taking your summer patio furniture in, check to see if the deck is in need of repair. Inspect for damages, give it a good rinse, and check if it needs a treatment. If you have never treated the deck before, the best time to do it is right before the summer ends. Doing so can add years and years to the deck’s life and keep you safer.
Check or Update the Heating System
If you have an HVAC you should make sure it works properly before the cold weather hits. It is critical this system be functional or it could potentially be dangerous to you and your possessions! All you need to do is turn it on and make sure it does its job. If not, hire a repairman and have it done before it becomes a problem.
Make Roof and Exterior Repairs
Because the snow will be a lot heavier than those summer showers, it is a good idea to get someone up on the roof to make repairs before it is covered with snow. Hire a Select Exteriors repair company to make sure everything is done correctly. Repairs can be a little expensive, but it is well worth knowing your house will not cave in.
Doing all of these things will help keep you out of the cold in the coming months. No one wants to be making repairs in wool gloves! Take advantage of the sun you have left and ensure that your home will stay warm and safe over fall and winter.
