Five Things You Should Inspect Before Buying Your New Home

If you are currently in the market to buy a new home, you have to remember to use logic instead of emotion as you make your new home purchase. While the entire buying process can be quite exciting, you still have to remember that you are making a huge financial decision when you buy a home. Therefore, there are five things you should inspect before buying a new home.
Get on the Roof
Make sure you take the time to get on the house’s roof to inspect it. While you can look for signs of roof problems inside the house like water stains on the ceiling or walls, there is no substitute for inspecting the roof itself to look for problem areas. It can be expensive to replace a roof, so make sure you find out how long the current roof has been on to figure out how much longer you have until it needs replacing.
Check the Foundation
Sometimes you will notice foundation problems right away because of cracks in the home’s ceilings, walls or porches. However, not all foundation problems can be spotted inside a home. It can be a good idea to have the foundation inspected for problems, cracks or holes because a foundation problem can be serious enough that it can make a house unsafe to live in or be very costly to fix.
Inspect the Plumbing
Academy Mechanical Services Inc., plumbers in Sherwood Park recommend a plumbing inspection for any home regardless of its age as there can be hidden problems with plumbing. A beautiful façade in a home’s kitchen or bathrooms can easily mask a problem. While you do need to pay attention to the home’s floors, cabinets and counters, don’t forget to open those cabinets to look for plumbing issues that could cause water damage in the home.
Look for Wiring Problems
Electrical problems are also hard to spot because the wires are hidden behind the walls in a home. However, a professional electrician will be able to make sure your home’s wiring is up to code and up to date. This can keep your family safe from electrical fires in the future.
Don’t Forget the Heating and Air Conditioning
Finally, check the home’s heating and air conditioning systems. While they may look to be in good shape, consider the age of the units. If they are old, they will need to be replaced in the near future. Remember that older units are not the most energy efficient either and will eat into your monthly budget.
Always go into any home buying process carefully. Inspect these five things before you buy a new home.
