3 Reasons to Build a New Home in Another Country

Many people consider living abroad temporarily, but very rarely does anyone consider building a home in another country. However, there are quite a few reasons why this is not just something to think about, but something to do.
1. It’s an experience unlike any other.
Travel often teaches people some of the hardest lessons in life: how to be flexible, how to be patient, and how to trust. That can be learned from traveling normally, but building a home in another country forces a person to embrace a culture different from their own, to put their faith in the locals and learn how to set aside their own expectations and merge with another society altogether. It might even force a person to learn a new language and experience different kinds of food than what they are used to. These lessons and experiences can leave a person humble.
2. Building a home abroad gives you more insight into that country that tourism does.
People who visit a country for three weeks and return home with photographs and stories of how wonderful a place is really have no idea what life there is like. Living in another country destroys the façade that tourism builds and allows someone to see the truth of a situation – both the good and the bad.
For instance, living abroad in Brazil might expose someone not only to the beauty and unique culture of the country, but also the poverty and trouble in the favelas. Tourists rarely see this because they avoid those parts of the country. Another example could be living abroad in the Middle East in a place like the United Arab Emirates. Many Middle Eastern countries are governed by Muslim Law. The governments in this part of the world are very different than those of the United States or European countries. The government and the laws are much stricter and harsher on the people whether they are natives or foreigners.
The type of government a country has is also something to consider before moving abroad as a person’s rights and liberties can be drastically changed. Tourists don’t usually get to see this side of a country if they are only they for a short amount of time.
3. You always have a place to go
Even if you don’t build a home for permanent residence, you have a vacation home to escape to in a place that you love. However, if you do move permanently, you will need to hire an international moving company like BC Alberta Movers to help with the transition of all of your furniture and other belongings. These companies make it easy to get possessions through customs and into your new home, saving you a lot of headache and paperwork. As an added bonus of having your own place, you can invite friends from abroad to come and stay, allowing them to glimpse what the world is like without spending a lot on accommodation.
While it’s not always the easiest decision to make, living and building a home abroad can teach many valuable lessons that no other experiences compare to. Take your time and do plenty of research before making the choice, and if you do, make sure to go to a country that you know and love.
